On April 5, 2019, John Fischer gave the Potter Lecture at Washington State University.  The talk is titled "Near-Death Experiences: A New Interpretation."  In this lecture, Professor Fischer puts forward a new development of the view he defends in his 2016 book Near-Death Experiences: Understanding Visions of the Afterlife (Oxford University Press, co-authored with Benjamin Mitchell-Yellin).

Modeling Immortality in Immersive Virtual Reality

Our grantee Mel Slater (University of Barcelona) has published a study in PLOS One, showing that virtual mortality and near-death experience after a prolonged exposure in a shared virtual reality may lead to positive life-attitude changes.   You can read the study here.  Here also is a 35-minute documentary that Mel and his team made as part of their research.
